Warriors compete in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Senior Kendall Myers (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) notched 54 digs and junior Cameron Upcraft (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) added 13 kills for the Lycoming College volleyball team as it faced off with a pair of Division II Puerto Rican teams on Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, at the San Juan Juan Recreation Center, falling to the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, 3-1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-22), and to the University of Puerto Rico- Bayamon, 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-18).
 
Both reached career marks in the matches, with Myers crossing 1,100 career digs and Upcraft reaching 500 career kills with her sixth of eight against Rio Piedras.
 
Myers notched 33 digs in the first match against Rio Piedras, with Upcraft adding eight kills and hitting .389, to go with two blocks. Senior Arianna Santos (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) added six kills and four blocks, sophomore Haley Balgavy (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) added 17 assists and three aces and first-year Liz Mayer (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) posted six blocks.
 
Rio Piedras hit .107 while Lycoming (9-15 overall) hit .038. Lycoming posted 10 blocks in the match.
 
Senior Brynne Bisel (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) had seven kills and eight digs to lead the team against Bayamon, which hit .224 and held Lycoming to .094. Upcraft posted five kills, Balgavy had 16 assists, sophomore Ima Mercado (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) posted four aces and Myers finished with 21 digs.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Friday, Nov. 1, when they face the University of Scranton at 7 p.m. in a key Landmark Conference match at Lamade Gym.
