Warriors tie program record for wins with 1-0 victory against Wilkes

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior Abigail Umhoefer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Our Lady of Lourdes) posted a goal for the Warriors late in the first half and that was enough, as the Lycoming College women's soccer team pitched its fourth straight shutout in a 1-0 win against Wilkes University at UPMC Field on Wednesday night, Oct. 23.

The 2024 squad tied the 2022 women's team's record with 12 wins, as the Warriors improved to 12-2-3 overall and 4-1-2 in the Landmark Conference with two games remaining in the regular season. Lycoming's win clinches the team a spot in the Landmark Conference Championship for the first time since joining the league in 2023 and helped the team move into second place alone in the conference standings with showdowns left against fourth-place Drew on Oct. 26, and Elizabethtown on Nov. 2.

In the 36th minute, sophomore Mikayla Long (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area) fired a shot that the Wilkes goalkeeper deflected to her left, where Umhoefer saved it from going out of bounds with a quick touch into the net.

In net for the Warriors, junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) posted one save against the Colonels. Wilkes University (4-9-3 overall, 1-4-2 Landmark Conference) had five shots, one in the second half.

Wilkes' goalie Delaney Yaracs saved eight shots in the first half and added two during the second half.

Lycoming notched 18 shots with junior Aubrey Williamson (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) leading the pack with five attempts. The Warriors accumulated 11 corner kicks to the Colonels' two.

The Warriors travel to Madison, N.J., on Saturday, Oct. 26, for a key Landmark Conference game against Drew University at 1 p.m.
