WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior Claudia Green (South Williamsport, Pa. / South Williamsport Area) headed a ball into the right corner of the net early in the first half, securing a lead for the Lycoming College women's soccer, which it maintained in a 1-0 victory over the Catholic University of America in Landmark Conference play at UPMC Field on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 19.
The win moves the Warriors to 11-2-3 overall, one win shy of the school record of 12 wins set in 2022 and 3-1-2 in the Landmark Conference, good for a tie for second in the league with three games remaining in the regular season.
In the sixth minute of the first half, senior Haley Schafer (Camden, Del. / Caesar Rodney) took a free kick from about 30 yards out on the left side and lofted it into the box, where Green met it head on and directed it to the right corner.
In net for the Warriors, junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) saved four shot attempts by the Cardinals. Catholic's goalie Ava Rieger made four saves in return.
Lycoming notched 12 shots against Catholic (5-6-3 overall, 1-3-2 Landmark Conference). Sophomore Mikayla Long (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area) posted four shot attempts, leading the Warriors' offensive efforts.
Catholic posted eight shots with four coming from Isabel Doherty.
The Warriors accumulated four corner kicks to the Cardinals' two.
The Warriors return to UPMC Field on Wednesday, Oct. 23, for Landmark Conference play against Wilkes University, needing a win to clinch a spot in the Landmark Conference Championship for the first time. The game kicks off at 7 p.m.
