Warriors sweep Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Posting 12 service aces and holding Wilkes University to a negative hitting percentage, the Lycoming College volleyball team cruised past its Landmark Conference opponent, 3-0, 25-18, 25-17, 25-7, on Friday night, Oct. 18, at the Arnaud C. Marts Center.
 
Junior Cameron Upcraft (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) led the Warriors (8-12 overall, 2-4 Landmark) with nine kills and a hefty .667 hitting percentage, while adding two blocks. Senior Brynne Bisel (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) added eight kills, hitting .438, to go with five digs, as the pair accounted for a majority of the team's 29 kills.
 
Senior Kendall Myers (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) led Lycoming's service attach with three aces, while sophomore Alli Macensky (Galeton, Pa./Galeton Area), Bisel, sophomore Ima Mercado (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) and sophomore Haley Balgavy (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) each had two. Senior Ali Koval (Mansfield, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) added 12 digs, Balgavy had seven assists and Mercado had 15. First-year Angela Farnham (La Plate, Md./McDonough) also added two blocks.
 
The Warriors broke open the first set after the set was tied at 13 by finishing the set on a 12-5 run. The Colonels led 9-6 in the second set before, Macensky and Bisel helped the Warriors on a 16-3 run to lead 22-12 before holding on for a 25-17 win.
 
In the last set, the Warriors hit .296, smashing down 11 kills, but also held long serves from Mercado (four points), Myers (seven) and Balgavy (six) to cruise to the 25-7 win.
 
Wilkes (4-15 overall, 0-4 Landmark) were led by six kills from Kendra Kalp. Alexa Cassel had 15 assists, Lauren Lokuta had nine digs and both Sierra Hines and Ava Wahlers had two blocks.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they head to Moravian University for another Landmark Conference matchup at 2 p.m.
