HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Down by two goals midway through the second half, the Lycoming College men's soccer team had no margin for error, and so, it was perfect on its next two corner kicks, with sophomore Aidan Stillman (Silver Spring, Md. / Albert Einstein) and senior Jaeden Asare (Letterkenny, Ireland / Perry Hall (Md.)) each scoring to help the team to a 2-2 draw against league-leading Juniata College in Landmark Conference play on Wednesday evening, Oct. 16, at Gibbel Stadium.
Trailing Juniata (7-2-5 overall, 4-0-1 Landmark Conference) by two in the 61st minute, junior Christian Woobay (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) took a corner kick for the Warriors. He rocketed the ball toward the goal, where Stillman headed it into the back of the net.
Two minutes later, Asare tied the game, getting his head on it after a header by senior Joe Bamfo (Lake Grove, N.Y./Connetquot) ricocheted off the crossbar off another corner from Woobay, tying the game and ending a chaotic 11 minutes where all four goals in the game were scored.
In net for the Warriors (7-3-4 overall, 2-1-2 Landmark Conference), first-year Jace Bennett (Falling Waters, W.Va. / Spring Mills) saved two shot attempts. Juniata's Maxwell Mattioni notched six saves.
Lycoming notched 15 shots to Juniata's 11. Junior Thomas Geyer (Havre De Grace, Md. / Harford Tech) recorded four shots, leading the Warriors' efforts. Both teams also accumulated three corner kicks.
Brandon Marzula and Shawn Tanaka led the Eagles' offensive efforts, each securing goals early in the second half.
The Warriors return to UPMC Field on Saturday, Oct. 19, for Landmark Conference play against Catholic. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m.
