Bauer secures tiebreaking goal in historic win

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior Tayah Bauer (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) posted the game-winning goal for the Lycoming College field hockey team in the last 30 seconds of play, leading the team to a 2-1 win against King's College in non-conference action on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at UPMC Field, helping the team break its record for most wins in a season in the process.

The Warriors improved to 6-4 with the win, surpassing the five wins mounted by the 1973, 1978, 1985, 1986 and 1989 squads before the program went on a 30-year hiatus, which ended in 2022.

With the clock ticking down in the fourth quarter, senior Halie Woodring (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) snagged the ball off a penalty corner and passed it to Bauer, who lobbed it into the net.

In the 12th minute, Woodring passed the ball to sophomore Ava Daly (Camp Hill, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt), who put the first goal on the board.

In net for the Warriors, junior Isabella Bobé (York Springs, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) secured three saves. King's Emily Bollinger saved eight shots.

Lycoming notched nine penalty corners and 15 shots to King's five corners and six shots.

King's Shaylee Heffron tied the game a goal off a penalty corner just before halftime, as the game stayed tied until Bauer's dramatic finisher in the final minute.

The Warriors travel to Selinsgrove, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 5, to play Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action at 1 p.m.
