WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior
Haley Schafer (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) bent a direct kick inside the post in the upper 90 for the game's lone score as the Lycoming College women's soccer team notched its fourth shutout of the year, 1-0, over King's College on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 27, at UPMC Field.
First-year
Mikayla Long (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) drew a foul just outside the 18-yard box, setting up Schafer's 25-yard dart into left corner in the 24
th minute.
Lycoming did have several other chances to score with Long getting behind the defense a pair of times, but the King's goalkeeper was able to make a pair of nice saves. Sophomore
Natalie Bates (Newark, N.Y./Newark) also had an open look that was kicked off the goalline by a defender in the first half.
King's (3-4-1 overall) took 10 shots in the game, as junior
Abbey Gerasimoff (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) made five saves for her first complete shutout of the season and improving to 3-1-2 on the season.
The Warriors fired nine shots and had eight on goal, with Apen Wallin finishing with six saves.
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 30, when they head to Susquehanna University for a 4 p.m. Landmark Conference game.
