Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Warriors fall to top-ranked Messiah

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Top-ranked Messiah College scored two goals in the first half and that was enough to keep a game effort from the Lycoming College men's soccer team at bay, as No. 1 Messiah hung on for a 2-0 win in non-conference action at the Starry Athletic Complex on Wednesday evening, Sept. 27.

The Falcons (8-0-1 overall) got on the board in the 10th minute, but the Warriors (4-3-3 overall) nearly responded 10 minutes later, as a Warrior free kick took a leaping senior Joey Francis (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) into the box, where he headed a shot on net that need a diving save from the Falcons' keeper.

Messiah's other goal came on a penalty kick after a foul in the box in the 36th minute.

Messiah held a 20-6 advantage in shots and were awarded 13 free kicks to Lycoming's 10 to go with five corner kicks to Lycoming's two.

Adam Carter stopped four shots in the shutout for Messiah and senior Nick Wilke (Mercerville, N.J./Notre Dame) stopped six in net for the Warriors.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 30, when they head to Susquehanna University for a 6:30 p.m. Landmark Conference matchup.
