Coombs, Upcraft pace hot-hitting Warriors in 3-1 win

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Ava Coombs (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) and sophomore Cameron Upcraft (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) each posted 14 kills as three Lycoming College volleyball players finished with double-digit kills to lead it to a 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-15, 25-12) win over Carlow University on Tuesday night, Sept. 26, at Lamade Gym.
 
Coombs notched a career-high 14 kills in 32 swings, hitting .312, and adding two blocks in Lycoming's eighth straight win and Upcraft fell one shy of her career high while hitting .500 and adding three blocks. Junior Arianna Santos (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) added 10 kills, hitting .368, to go with a block. Junior Brynne Bisel (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) also added nine kills and 18 digs.
 
First-year Lindsay Heimlich (Bergen, N.Y./Mercy) notched 34 assists and three aces. Junior Ali Koval (Mansfield, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) posted 20 digs and three aces to move within 15 digs of 800 in her career and junior Kendall Myers (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) added nine digs and an ace, moving within 10 digs of the milestone.
 
Lycoming dominated statistically, hitting .288 (50-16-118) in the match while holding the Celtics (6-5 overall) to .098 (41-28-133) and holding a 9-4 advantage in service aces and 57-43 lead in digs. Lycoming hit better than .200 in all three sets it won, including .467 (15-1-30) in the final set.
 
Rebecca Hess, Alison Humberston and Megan Cooper each had 10 kills to lead the Celtics. Meghan Alexander had 37 assists, Rebecca Hess three aces, Claire Yezovich added 10 digs and both Taylor Claypoole and Gabby Serrao each had two blocks.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Friday, Sept. 29, when they head to Susquehanna University for a 7 p.m. Landmark Conference match.
