Warriors draw with defending Liberty League champs

ITHACA, N.Y. – A second-half equalizer on a penalty kick by first-year Mikayla Long (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) helped the Lycoming College women's soccer team finish with a 1-1 draw against 2022 Liberty League champions Ithaca College on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 10, at Carp Wood Field.

The Warriors (2-1-2 overall) got on the board in the 10th minute of the second half, when Long drilled her penalty kick after a foul in the box, scoring in the middle left.

The Bombers, who reached the second round of the NCAA Championship in 2022, took eight shots after that, but were turned away with three saves from junior Abbey Gerasimoff (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) in the final moments. Ithaca (3-0-1 overall) got a pair of shots off in the final two minutes, but each were blocked away by defenders.

The Bombers got on the board in the first half, when Ella Shorkey scored directly on a corner kick, with that being the only score amongst 21 Ithaca shots.

Gerasimoff stopped four shots in a scoreless second half to earn the tie and sophomore Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) stopped four in the first half for the Warriors. Grace Hickey had three saves for the Bombers.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 16, when they host Marymount University in non-conference action at 1 p.m. at UPMC Field.
