Warriors shut down Mount St. Mary in season opener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Four different Lycoming College men's soccer players found the back of the net, three in the second half, as it allowed just one shot in a 4-0 win over Mount St. Mary College in non-conference action at UPMC Field on Friday, Sept. 1.
 
Lycoming (1-0 overall) took 17 shots in the game, getting on the board in the 38th minute, as senior Joey Francis (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) scored off a corner kick from senior Reuben Devaney (Nottingham, Md./Concordia Prep). Sophomore Christian Woobay (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) started the second half off with a score into the right corner off a give from junior Jaeden Asare (Letterkenny, Ireland/Perry Hall (Md.)) before senior Joe Bamfo (Lake Grove, N.Y./Connetquot) scored on a penalty kick in the 59th minute. Senior Emmanuel Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) cleaned up a shot from first-year Mason McKnight (Williamsburg, Va./Williamsburg Classical Academy) in the 83rd minute for the final score.
 
Senior Nick Wilke (Mercerville, N.J./Notre Dame) earned the win, playing 80 minutes before first-year Melvin Ahoueya (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) played the last 10. Caesar Martinez stopped five shots for the Knights (0-1 overall).
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Sunday, Sept. 3, when they face Misericordia University in non-conference action at 3 p.m.
