WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men's soccer team held Misericordia University to just five shots, as it posted its second straight shutout to start the 2023 season in a 0-0 draw in non-conference action on Sunday, Sept. 3, at UPMC Field.

The game was a rematch of the 2022 MAC Freedom Championship semifinal, which also ended in a 2-2 draw, with the third-seeded Warriors beating the second-seeded Cougars, 5-4 in penalty kicks. Lycoming departed the MAC Freedom at the end of the 2022-23 academic year for the Landmark Conference.

Lycoming (1-0-1 overall) held possession for much of the game, garnering 16 shots and nine corners, spending more than half their time with the ball in the Misericordia (1-0-1 overall) zone, but the Warriors couldn't find the back of the net.

Lycoming's best chance came in the 86
th minute, when a header by senior
Joey Francis (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) was snagged at the goalline by a leaping Misericordia keeper Charlton Alonso, the last of his four saves.

Nick Wilke (Mercerville, N.J./Notre Dame) notched three saves in the shutout, snagging Misericordia's best chance to score in the 71
st minute when Logan Moore got a shot off in the box after a Cougars' free kick that Wilke was perfectly positioned for, catching the ball at chest height.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, Sept. 6, when they head to Mount Aloysius College for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
