DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore
Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) hit her second homer of the year for the second-seeded Lycoming College softball team's first hit, but third-seeded King's College posted a 6-1 win to open the MAC Freedom Championship on Thursday afternoon, May 4, at Delaware Valley University's Softball Field.
Eiswerth drilled a pitch over the left field fence for her second homer of the year in the fifth for the Warriors' lone run.
The Warriors (22-13 overall) move on to face No. 5-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology in an elimination game at 4 p.m.
The Monarchs (24-13 overall) got on the board in the first inning and another run crossed in the second frame unearned. Kiersten Krouse got the third Monarchs run with a fifth-inning homer and Molly Gillette added a three-run homer in the frame.
Gillette led the Monarchs, going 2-for-3 with a three-run homer. Loyack had two runs.
First-year
Hailee Sobieski (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) also had a hit for the Warriors.
Junior
Kylie Russell (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore) went five innings, allowing six hits, a walk and striking out three. Eiswerth pitched two scoreless frames to finish the game.
Brittany Novicki (11-5) tossed a complete-game, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out 11.
