Warriors sweep DelVal on Good Friday

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Kylie Segraves (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) had five hits and four runs to lead the Lycoming College softball team, as it downed Delaware Valley University to keep hold of first-place in the MAC Freedom with an 8-4 win in the first game and 10-0 in five innings in the second game at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Good Friday, April 7.

Russell went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, a double and a stolen base in the first game, first-year Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI and junior Rachel DeWolfe (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Lycoming (16-6 overall, 7-1 MAC Freedom) responded with a five-run second after Delaware Valley (5-18-1 overall, 0-8 MAC Freedom) took the lead with two runs in the top of the inning. Eiswerth singled to lead off before first-year Megan Gorsuch (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) reached on a bunt single. After a sac bunt, Alexander reached on an infield single to load the bases before Segraves doubled to left to drive in two runs and senior Megan Wetzel (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) followed with another double to score another run. DeWolfe singled into left and a groundout brought in Wetzel with the fifth run of the game.

The Aggies cut the lead to two runs in the third, but the Warriors responded with two of their own. Sophomore Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) walked before a sac bunt and an error set up a two-RBI single from Alexander.

The Warriors scored a run off an error that helped Segraves reached before she stole second and scored on a single to left from DeWolfe in the first inning to take a brief lead.

Eiswerth (3-1) pitched five innings in relief, allowing three hits and no earned runs. She struck out two and allowed just three baserunners in the last four innings.

Kenzie Boyd (4-10) pitched six innings, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs. She walked two. She also went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the offense in the first game.

Junior Kylie Russell (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore) (7-3) won her sixth straight game by tossing a five-hit shutout in the second game, while Lycoming had six walks and nine hits in the 10-0 five-inning win. Russell struck out five in the game.

Segraves went 2-for-3 with two runs and Wetzel, Sobieski and sophomore Rachel Daub (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) each scored twice. Eiswerth went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run and RBI.
