Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) led the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team with three goals as Lycoming fell to Misericordia University, 21-9, in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday, April 26, at UPMC Field.
Maguire, the 14
th player in program history with 60 goals in a season, notched three goals, an assist, three ground balls, caused a turnover, and won six draw controls. First-year
Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) scored twice, picking up a ground ball and won two draw controls and sophomore
Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) posted two goals and a ground ball. Senior
Tess Arnold (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) and junior
Rylie Cranmer (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) each scored a goal a piece, with Arnold adding an assist and two draw controls.
Senior Madison
Wineburg (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) led the team with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Maguire's first two goals were scored on free-position attempts.
Block's at goal 7:59 in the second was set up by Stocker, who cleared the ball down to sophomore
Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) behind the cage with Baldwin finding Block outside the crease for the high shot on goal. Catching a high pass coming from behind the goal, Cranmer bullied her way through the Cougars' defense for the shot on goal.
Positioned inside the arch, Stocker open for a pass from Arnold and she took the low shot for the goal. Maguire took a high shot from the crease after gaining possession on a man-up opportunity for the Warriors (8-7 overall, 4-3 MAC Freedom) to cut the Cougars' lead to eight goals. Block scored two minutes later, shooting from the right goal post.
Taking a high shot from the top of the crease, Stocker scored again at 10:01 in the fourth off an assist from Maguire. Arnold topped off the Warriors' scoring, taking a shot from inside the arc.
The Cougars (9-7 overall, 6-1 MAC Freedom) were led by Michelle Torizilli with seven goals, Molly Celesky with five goals, and Genevieve Montanye with three goals.
Junior goalkeeper
Zoe Stauffer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) notched 10 saves for the Warriors, moving into third all-time with 429 career saves, passing Mandi Stranix '99 (419). Madelyn Uetz earned the win for the Cougars, making 10 saves.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday, April 29, when they host FDU-Florham in their final regular season game at 1 p.m. at UPMC Field, needing a win to clinch a MAC Freedom Championship slot or either an Arcadia win in its game with DeSales or a DeSales win by less than three goals.
