Maguire reaches 50 goals as Warriors down King’s, 18-4

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Opening the scoring for the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team just a minute and a half into play on a free-position opportunity, sophomore Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) scored her 50th goal of the season, starting things off as Lycoming dominated King's College, 18-4, in a MAC Freedom victory on Wednesday night, April 19, at UPMC Field.

Maguire scored four more times, picking up an assist, two ground balls, a caused turnover, and she won five draw controls. First-year Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic), six goals away from crossing the 50-goal milestone herself, led the Warriors in scoring, putting up six goals, an assist, and a draw control. Junior Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) had four goals, a ground ball, and caused a turnover. Sophomore Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) scored two and led the team with five assists and senior Madison Wineburg (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) scored her first goal of the season, picked up a team-high four ground balls, and caused two turnovers. Senior Tess Arnold (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) tied Maguire with a team leading five draw controls.

Stocker put the Warriors (8-5 overall, 4-1 MAC Freedom) up by three in the first, rolling between two defenders before taking the shot, as she crossed the crease. Block, catching a pass from Baldwin, was able to get the ball over the shoulder of Monarchs' goalkeeper on a high jump shot. With a second remaining in the quarter, Baldwin got the final shot after a scuffle in front of the goal.

Stocker again opened the next quarter with a shot from the top of the goal crease. Maguire tallied again, running the ball into the arch and quickly followed it with another goal 30 seconds later. Stocker notched her third of the game on another high shot. With the Warriors short-handed, Block scored goal number 10 on the evening for the Warriors from just inside the arch and finished off the half with a quick shot from the post.

A turnover caused by Wineburg led to a good clear by the Warriors for the first goal of the second half from Block. Stocker buried her final goal of the game, as she was knocked to the ground by two defenders. Block ended the quarter with a shot to the top right ninety.

Shooting from the top of the crease, Maguire scored her 54th goal of the season and Wineburg scored her first of the season, catching the pass outside the arch and running it in for the goal in the fourth quarter.

Kyleigh Dunworth led the Monarchs (2-11 overall, 1-4 MAC Freedom) with two goals, a ground ball, a caused turnover and two draw wins.

Junior goalkeeper Zoe Stauffer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made eight saves for the Warriors, earning the win. Sidney Bush also made eight saves for the Monarchs.

The Warriors, tied for third in the MAC Freedom with Misericordia, return to the field on Saturday, April 22, when they travel to Stevens Institute of Technology for a 12 p.m. MAC Freedom matchup in Hoboken, N.J.
