Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Five Warriors score multiple goals to edge Saint Vincent, 13-11

LATROBE, Pa. – Junior Rylie Cranmer (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) and sophomore Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) each posted a hat trick on Sunday afternoon, March 26, to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team, which had six players find the back of the net in the 13-11 victory over Saint Vincent College, at Saint Vincent's UPMC Field.

Cranmer added four ground balls and three caused turnovers to go with her three goals and Maguire picked up three ground balls to go with her three goals. Senior Tess Arnold (Elmira, Pa./Elmira) scored two goals, notched an assist and a ground ball and caused two turnovers. Sophomore Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) put two back in the net, picking up two ground balls and causing a turnover. Sophomore Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md./Hereford Tech) put up two goals, an assist and a ground ball and first-year Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) scored one goal, plus tallied a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Senior Madison Wineburg (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) led the Warriors with six ground balls and five caused turnovers.

Less than a minute into play, Maguire nailed the first goal of the day for the Warriors (3-4 overall) from inside the goal crease. The scoring picked up on both sides with the Bearcats (5-2 overall) notching two goals before Baldwin was able snag the ground ball before scoring on a shot from the left post. Maguire quickly followed with her second goal on a free position shot before the Bearcats scored three to end the quarter.

The Warriors countered another quick tally by the Bearcats with a seven-goal run through the end of the second quarter and into the second half. Arnold kicked off the run with a free position shot with Maguire following, shooting from just outside the crease. Cranmer was next, sending the ball over the shoulder of the Bearcats goalkeeper. Arnold took another turn finding the back of the net with a tip-in shot. Cranmer ended the first half on a man-up opportunity from the right of the goal arch.

Stocker opened the second half, posting a goal from the top of the crease just 39 seconds into play. Cranmer's third goal of the day came off a quick shot coming through the Bearcats' defense. Stocker topped off the quarter after two goals from the Bearcats on an underhanded shot, gaining the possession from Block who ran the ball in off the draw control.

Baldwin's second goal was a free position opportunity in the final quarter with Block scoring two minutes later with the Warriors final goal. The Warriors held on for the win, 13-11, despite the Bearcats' offense bringing the team within two goals in the last three minutes.

Maggie Edwards and Bridget Doyle led the Bearcats with three goals each. Edwards added an assist and four ground balls and Doyle had five assists, four ground balls and a caused turnover.

Junior goalkeeper Zoe Stauffer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) earned the win, making 15 saves on 35 shots. Bailey Nicely made eight saves for the Bearcats on 28 shots.

The Warriors return to the field on Wednesday, March 29, when they travel to DeSales University to open MAC Freedom play beginning at 4 p.m. in Center Valley, Pa.
