Block, Maguire net three a piece against River Hawks

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Scoring three goals each, sophomore Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) and first-year Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) led the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team in a 20-9 setback against Susquehanna University on Wednesday, March 22, at UPMC Field.
 
Maguire won six draw controls for the Warriors on top of her hat trick and Block picked up a ground ball and won a draw with her own hat trick. Senior Tess Arnold (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) led the team with four points, notching two goals and two assists to go with three draw control wins and first-year Nya Smith (Baltimore, Md./Vermont Academy) also notched a goal.
 
Senior Gabriella Haug (Barrington, N.H./Oyster River) led the defense with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
Block cut the River Hawks early lead in half with the Warriors' first goal on a free position shot with 9:48 left in the first quarter. Arnold, just a minute and a half later, and Maguire at 5:11, each were awarded free position opportunities for goals two and three, while Susquehanna scored five in the opening quarter.
 
Smith found the back of the cage at 13:07 from the top of the goal crease, catching a pass from sophomore Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) inside the arc. Maguire scored on another free position attempt at 11:39. Block, with a pass from Arnold, scored at 10:19 and Arnold's second goal came at 6:04 on a free position shot. Arnold ran a full field to clear it for the Warriors to assist Block with a goal from the crease to end the half, as Susquehanna led 14-8 at the break.
 
Maguire's third free position attempt was the final goal of the night for the Warriors at 13:44 in the third quarter.
 
Caitlin Harvey led the River Hawks with three goals, an assist, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and eight draw wins. Allie Kutler, Heather Riefenhauser, and Kelsey Homberg all scored three goals.
 
Junior goalkeeper Zoe Stauffer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made 15 saves for the Warriors. Emmy Regan and Aerin O'Brien combined for four saves for the River Hawks.
 
The Warriors return to the field on Sunday, March 26, when they travel to Saint Vincent College for a 3 p.m. non-conference matchup in Latrobe, Pa.
