Block, Baldwin score three at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – First-year Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.Y./Morris Catholic) and sophomore Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) led the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team with a hat trick a piece in their first collegiate games on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Elizabethtown College, as Lycoming fell, 16-10, in the non-conference matchup at Wolf Field.

Block and Baldwin each notched three goals with Block also earning an assist. Sophomore Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) scored two and earned an assist, and sophomore Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) and first-year Nya Smith (Baltimore, Md./Vermont Academy) finished with a goal each.

Seniors Tess Arnold (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) and Madison Wineburg (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) led the Warriors with four ground balls and senior Gabriella Haug (Barrington, N.H./Oyster River) led the team with three caused turnovers.

Stocker, scoring the Warriors' first goal of the season, cut the Blue Jays' early lead to just one early in the first quarter after Maguire won the draw and was able to pass to Stocker in front of the goal. Baldwin scored her first of the game at 8:32 as she cleared the ball for the Warriors before a wraparound goal to tie at two.

Block's first goal gave the Warriors their first lead of the game on a good clear, unassisted, from inside the crease. Block's second goal came as the Warriors were awarded a free position shot. Completing her hat trick in the first quarter, Block's final goal of the game came at 2:20 on another good clear attempt from inside the crease.

After a clear, the Warriors were again awarded a free position attempt that finished in Maguire's first goal in the second quarter. Baldwin's second goal came just in front of the right goal post after snagging her own ground ball, but the Blue Jays scored two to end the half ahead 8-7.

Finishing off her hat trick at 13:53 of the third quarter, Baldwin tied the game at eight after clearing for the Warriors in the Blue Jays' defensive zone. Maguire's final goal of the game came with 4:54 left in the third after Block found her inside the goal crease for a shot inside the left post.

Smith, with the 10th and final goal of the game, scored with 14 minutes remaining in regulation, coming around the backside of the goal after a pass from Block, to find the back of the net between two defenders. The Blue Jays posted four unanswered goals to claim the 16-10 victory, though.

Sam Deiaco led the Blue Jays with six goals as Megan Gress and Hannah Cressman also scored a hat trick each.

Sophomore goaltender Zoe Stauffer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made eight saves on the day. Alayna Trynosky and Rachel Murphy combined for 10 saves for the Blue Jays.

The Warriors return to the field on Wednesday, March 1, when they head to Juniata College for a 4 p.m. draw in Huntingdon, Pa.
