Warriors score 27 unanswered to down Keystone, 34-7

LA PLUME, Pa. – Junior Billy Coppock (Collingdale, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) caught five passes for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns and junior Will Fish (Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg) ran for another pair as the Lycoming College football team scored the final 27 points in a 34-7 Landmark Conference win at the Turf Field Athletic Complex on Saturday, Oct. 21.

The Warriors (2-5 overall, 2-1 Landmark) used a balanced offense of 161 passing yards and 143 rushing yards in the win, while Keystone racked up 340 yards of offense but were hampered by a pair of turnovers.

The Warriors got started on their run of 27 straight points after Keystone had a 13-play, 86-yard drive stall at the Lycoming 10-yard line with a missed field goal. The Warriors turned to a balance of rushes and passes to get the ball inside the red zone, where junior Ian Plankenhorn (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) dropped through a 36-yard field goal, helping Lycoming take a 10-7 lead into halftime.

After each team started the third quarter with three-and-outs, the Warriors got to work with the ball at their own 46. Fish quickly completed 4-of-5 passes before rushing for 10 yards and then handing the ball to first-year Quasim Benson (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth), who got the ball to the Keystone six before Plankenhorn kicked through his second field goal of the game.

Lycoming drove 79-yards on seven plays on the next drive, with senior Brandon Timothy (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic Valley) rushing 18 yards to get the ball to the five-yard line and two plays later, Fish plowed in from a yard out to make it 20-7 at the end of the third quarter.

An interception by sophomore Jordan Rhinehart (Upper Darby, Pa./Father Judge) at the Keystone 32 set up a three-play scoring drive, with Fish finding Coppock for his second 20-yard TD catch of the game on the first play of the fourth quarter, making it 27-7.

A fumble on Keystone's next play was smothered by senior Trent Kithcart (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) at the five-yard line and Fish scored from three yards out a play later to round out Lycoming's scoring.

Keystone scored on a 19-play drive after that, but an illegal motion penalty nullified the touchdown and an incomplete pass ended the threat.

The Warriors got on the board when Coppock capped a 12-play, 56-yard drive with a 20-yard touchdown catch over the middle, but Keystone tied the game on their next drive, moving 75 yards before Mujaheed Muhammed scored from three yards out.

Fish finished 18-of-28 for 161 yards and two scores. First-year Terrence Oliver (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) rushed 12 times for 59 yards and Benson rushed 14 times for 53 yards.

Plankenhorn finished the day with two field goals made, four extra points and an average of 39.2 yards on five punts, with one falling inside the 20.

Junior Joey Rivituso (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame-Green Pond) finished with 10 tackles for the Warriors and sophomore Ryan Pentz (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) had eight tackles, 1.5 for loss. First-year Stephen Goodman (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) notched four stops, two for loss.

Donald Leach was 20-of-39 for 216 yards and an interception. Damir Green rushed six times for 49 yards and Jayson Nami had three catches for 80 yards. Joshua Orozco had 11 tackles, 2.5 for loss and a sack for the Giants.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28, when they host Juniata College at 1 p.m. in Landmark Conference action at David Person Field.
