Warriors rout Juniata, 56-10

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – First-year running backs Quasim Benson (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) and Terrence Oliver (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) combined for 198 yards and five touchdowns on 20 carries and junior Will Fish (Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns, as the Lycoming College football team moved into second place in the Landmark Conference with a 59-10 win over Juniata College on Saturday, Oct. 28, at David Person Field at Girardi Stadium.

Benson finished with 115 yards and three scores on nine carries and Oliver added 11 carries for 82 yards and two scores, as Lycoming (3-5 overall, 3-1 Landmark) rushed 36 times for 267 yards and six scores. Fish finished 18-of-31 for 295 yards and two scores while playing one drive into the third quarter. Sophomore Dawson Debebe (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) caught four passes for 133 yards and a score, senior Brandon Timothy (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic Valley) had six catches for 78 yards and junior Billy Coppock (Collingdale, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) added four catches for 55 yards and a score.

The Warriors posted 602 yards of total offense, the first time that they crossed 600 yards since posting 640 against FDU-Florham in 2019. The defense, meanwhile, allowed just 161, including 53 yards passing, with both of Juniata's scoring drive coming off turnovers in the second half when Lycoming already had a seven-touchdown lead.

Lycoming got on the scoreboard on their second drive, after a three-play, 38-yard drive set up by a 24-yard punt return from senior Austin Rowley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley). Oliver scored from eight yards out. After Rowley intercepted a pass at the 50 to end Juniata's ensuing drive, Lycoming scored seven plays later with Oliver cruising in from three yards out.

After a Juniata 3-and-out, the Warriors drove 69 yards on six plays to set up Benson's first score with 13 yards out with 3:17 left in the first quarter. He added a 33-yard touchdown 28 seconds into the second quarter before Lycoming found the end zone through the air in its next drive, with Fish finding Debebe behind the secondary for a 90-yard score. As the half wound down, the Warriors drove 71 yards in nine plays before Fish found Coppock for a four-yard score to make it 42-0 at the break.

Lycoming started the second half with a seven-play, 71-yard drive, with Benson scoring from 18 yards out to cap the drive.

Juniata scored the next 10 points, but a 74-yard kickoff return from sophomore Tyler Marshall (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) set up a four-play, 16-yard drive capped when junior Heath Jones (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) crashed in from four yards out to cap the game's scoring with 12:19 left in the fourth quarter.

First-year David Schley (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) led the Warriors with seven tackles and senior Brett Gasker (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) added six tackles, one for loss. Junior Trent Kithcart (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) posted three tackles for loss and added one of the team's seven sacks.

Noah Wright finished 8-of-20 with an interception for 53 yards and he rushed 17 times, scoring once. Joey Menke rushed 11 times for 73 yards.

Dawson Booher had two interceptions for the Eagles, a breakup and a hurry. Ethan Shank led the team with 11 tackles.

The Warriors are back on the field on Saturday, Nov. 4, when they host Landmark Conference foe Moravian University at 12 p.m., in a matchup for second place in the league.
