Warriors use big second half to down Juniata, 4-1

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – With three second-half goals, the Lycoming College women's soccer team took control to post its first Landmark Conference win, 4-1, at Juniata College on Tuesday night, Oct. 10, at Gibbel Stadium.
 
Junior Haley Schafer (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) got the second half barrage started, scoring the Olimpico goal directly off the corner kick, her second free kick goal of the year for the Warriors (5-2-5 overall, 1-1-3 Landmark). Six minutes later, Schafer lifted another corner kick that sophomore Abigail Umhoefer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) headed into the corner of the net.
 
The Warriors jumped into a four-way tie for fifth in the Landmark Conference standings with four conference games to play and the top six teams earning a berth in the conference championship. They head to fourth-place Catholic for a 3:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, Oct. 14.
 
In the 69th minute, sophomore Aubrey Williamson (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) crossed a ball through the box that caught the foot of sophomore Rhandie Jessell (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) for the team's fourth goal of the game. It was Williamson's eighth assist of the year, which places her tied for third in program history.
 
Senior Emily Shultz (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) set up the first goal on a free kick, as she send a ball into the penalty area that first-year Mackenzie Schoener (Sinking Spring, Pa./Conrad Weiser) drilled into the net in the 31st minute.
 
The Eagles (4-7-1 overall, 0-4-1 Landmark) closed the scoring in the 82nd minute, with Daniela Scipioni scoring.
 
Junior Abbey Gerasimoff (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) made six saves to earn the win for Juniata, which took 11 shots. Julia Lane and Cati Besch combined to make two saves off 12 Lycoming shots for the Eagles.
