Warriors overwhelm FDU-Florham, 78-32

MADISON, N.J. – The Lycoming College women's basketball team posted their largest point spread of the season with 13 of the team's 14 players putting points on the board, overwhelming FDU-Florham, 78-32, at the Ferguson Rec Center on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 7.
 
The 46-point margin of victory was the team's largest since a 62-point win over Penn St.-Hazleton, 118-56, in the 2018-19 season opener and the 32 points allowed the fewest since a 58-32 win over Alvernia on Jan. 30, 2019.
 
First-year Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) nailed five three-pointers for all 15 of her points to lead the team's scorers. Sophomore Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) added 11 points, five assists and six rebounds. Sophomore Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) hit three 3-pointers for nine points, adding four steals, two assists and three rebounds and first-year Victoria Burton (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) also finished with nine points. Senior Kenzie Reed (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) topped the team with eight rebounds and sophomore Isabella Fave (Mifflinburg, Pa./Midd-West), the lone Warrior not to score, posted five rebounds and an assist.
 
The Warriors (5-9 overall, 1-4 MAC Freedom) scored 36 points from the paint, adding 25 second-chance points, and they shot 55 percent from three-point range (11-of-20) while holding the Devils (0-9 overall, 0-6 MAC Freedom) to just 16 percent (10-of-63) from the floor.
 
Wetzel's game-opening 3-pointer was the first of 11 for the Warriors. Abdo hit three trifectas in the first quarter as part of a 14-point scoring rush for the Warriors. Junior Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton) joined that run with three layups for six points. The defense held the Devils to 10 points in the first quarter as the Warriors totaled 32.
 
By halftime, the Warriors reached the 50-point mark, as the second quarter was led by Dufner who scored eight points. Dufner scored on three possessions in a row, a jumper and two layups at the halfway point with the Warriors on another tear of 13 points. The run started with a layup from Dufner that was followed by another 3-point shot from Wetzel and ended with a layup from sophomore Jillian Pumputis (Westminster, Md./Westminster). The Warriors entered the second half ahead, 50-14.
 
The Warriors enjoyed another 14-point run in the third quarter with 3-pointers from Abdo, Wetzel, and first-year Katie Bena (Clarksville, Pa./River Hill) while Burton scored on three possessions for five points in the middle of it.
 
The Warriors reached their largest lead of the game at 56 points with 3:36 left, leading 78-22, before the Devils scored the last 10 points of the game.
 
The Devils were led by Abigail Rodriguez with 23 points, two assists, a rebound and a steal.
 
The Warriors return home on Wednesday, Jan. 11, when they host King's College (Pa.) in a MAC Freedom doubleheader, with the women serving as the finale at 6 p.m. at Lamade Gym, after the men play at 4 p.m.
