WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A strong defensive performance and a second-half goal by sophomore
Owen Magee (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) helped the Lycoming College men's soccer team draw against Johns Hopkins University, which is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Division III poll, 1-1 on Sunday, Sept. 4, at UPMC Field.
Magee's game-tying goal came at the 55-minute mark after first-year
Christan Woobay (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) drilled a pass inside the goalbox for junior
Austin Craig (Freeland, Md./Hereford). Craig, with spance, bounced a shot off the chest of the Blue Jays' goalkeeper, and Magee was there to clean it up to tie the game.
Both teams were held scoreless for the entire first half. Johns Hopkins took six shots on goal over the course of the first 45 minutes but struck first at the 53 minute mark on a shot from Ian Whamond, as Whamond got a through ball, beat the goalie and fired a dart into the net.
Lycoming junior goalkeeper
Nick Wilke (Mercerville, N.J./Notre Dame) finished with six saves, making two nice stops in the final 35 minutes, and Alex Morgret stopped three shots for the Blue Jays (1-0-1 overall).
The Warriors return to the field on Wednesday, Sept. 7, when they host Susquehanna University in the Battle of the Boot at 7 p.m. at UPMC Field.
