Warriors open floodgates in second half at Alfred State

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After four scoreless games and a scoreless first half, the floodgates opened for the Lycoming College women's soccer team after Alfred State took a lead early in the second half, answering with three goals to cap off a 3-1 non-conference win at Pioneer Stadium.

The Pioneers (2-5-1 overall) took the lead with an unassisted goal from Jena Scheible in the 47th minute, but senior Bridget Maaloum (Lynbrook, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) got the equalizer in the 54th minute off a give from first-year Abigail Umhoefer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes). Fourteen minutes later, Maaloum found first-year Aubrey Williamson (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) for the game-winning goal before first-year Hannah Wood (Nottingham, Pa./Solanco) added an insurance tally in the 84th minute.

Maaloum led the onslaught with a goal and an assist.

First-year Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) earned the win, as she made five saves off nine Pioneer shots to improve to 3-0-1, while Sierra Schofield stopped five shots off nine Warrior shots for the Pioneers.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 1, when they open MAC Freedom play by hosting Delaware Valley University at 12 p.m. at UPMC Field. Following the game, UPMC Field at Keiper Stadium will officially be dedicated at 2:30 p.m.
