Warriors fall to second-ranked Messiah

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men's soccer team, ranked third in the latest United Soccer Coaches Region IV poll, fell in non-conference action to second-ranked Messiah University, 5-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at UPMC Field.
 
Junior Javan Aching (Upper Marlboro, Md./International HS at Langley Park) led the Warriors (4-2-4 overall) with two shots and junior Kenny Clapp (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) recorded a shot on goal.
 
Josh Bratager, Zackary Venus, Luke Groothoff, Isaac Schmitke, and Matt McDonald tallied goals for the Falcons (8-0-1 overall), who scored four in the second half.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Wilke (Mercerville, N.J./Notre Dame) recorded seven saves on the evening. Falcons goalkeeper Jared Pavlovich made one.
 
The Warriors return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 1, when they open MAC Freedom play against Delaware Valley University following the dedication of UPMC Field at Keiper Stadium, set to take place at 2:30 p.m.
