Gibboney sets wins mark with 5-0 shutdown of Mount Aloysius

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior midfielder Pius Atubire (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) scored the first two goals of his career to lead the Lycoming College men's soccer team on Saturday, Sept. 24, at UPMC Field, helping head coach Nate Gibboney set the program's all-time wins mark.

Since coming to Lycoming in 2013, Gibboney has posted a 111-42-22 record, passing Scott Kennell (2000-10) for the all-time wins record. Among those 111 wins, were three conference titles wins, six conference semifinal wins, four NCAA tournament wins, and one win in the NCAA Second Round.

First-year Keller Chamovitz (Sewickly, Pa./Quaker Valley) opened the scoring for the Warriors (4-1-4 overall) just three minutes into play off a free kick from out above the left corner of the goal box.

Atubire's first goal at 41:21 came on a scrum that he cleaned up inside the goalbox. First-year Christian Woobay (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) earned the assist. He snagged his second goal by deflecting a pass from the goalkeeper back into the net.

In the 80th minute, junior Javan Aching (Upper Marlboro, Md./International HS at Langley Park) scored his first career goal on a header inside the box to the back corner of the goal off a give from junior Emmanuel Sarfo (Stafford, Pa./Brooke Point).

The final goal of the game came from first year Chris Djadja (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) off a lead pass from first-year Dante Beddia (New Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry) that created a 1-v-1 opportunity.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Wilke (Mercerville, N.J./Notre Dame) made two saves before he was relieved by first-year Eric Ball (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield Area), who played the final 21 minutes. Tucker Hays finished with six saves for the Mounties (2-6-1 overall).

The Warriors return to the field on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when they host second-ranked Messiah University in a 6 p.m. kickoff at UPMC Field.
