Warriors rout Lions, 45-0

READING, Pa. – Allowing just 191 total yards, the Lycoming College football team held Albright College to nine first downs in defensive coordinator Steve Wiser's 68th career shutout, while a defensive score and a special teams one were more than enough, but the offense also put forth 31 points in a 45-0 Middle Atlantic Conference shutout on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Shirk Stadium.

The Warriors (2-1 overall, 1-0 MAC) racked up 310 total yards, with 212 of them coming on 49 rushes, as the team found the endzone three times on the ground and once through the air.

Senior Elijah Shemory (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) was 8-of-17 for 101 yards and a score passing and he rushed eight times for 27 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Heath Jones (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) rushed 14 times for 59 yards and first-year Michael VanHorn (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) ran 10 times for 51 yards and a score, as the pair led five Warriors with at least 25 yards.

Sophomore Ziare Williams (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) caught three passes for 52 yards and sophomore Billy Coppock (Collingdale, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) had two catches for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Senior Cole Senior (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area) posted nine tackles to lead the defense, junior Hunter Campbell (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) had five stops and an interception and senior Austin Rowley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) added five tackles, 1.5 for loss. Sophomore Joey Rivituso (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame-Green Pond) had two fumble recoveries, scooping up one for a touchdown and an interception.

The Warriors opened the scoring four minutes into the game on their opening drive, as junior Ian Plankenhorn (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) canned a 34-yard field goal. Late in the quarter, Rivituso picked off a pass at the Lycoming 38 and 11 plays later, Shemory capped the drive by diving in from two yards out, capping the drive highlighted by a 32-yard reception by Williams.

In the second quarter, the Warriors forced a 3-and-out inside the Lions 10 and got the ball back at their own 47 after a punt. Seven plays later, Shemory dove in from a yard out to make it 17-0 at the break.

The Warriors extended their opening third quarter drive when Rivituso picked up a fumble off a muffed punt at the 25-yard line. Three plays later, Shemory found Coppock in the end zone to make it 24-0. After another 3-and-out, the Warriors benefitted from a short field off a punt, scoring in six plays, with VanHorn charging in from a yard out. On the last play of the third quarter, junior Adam McCafferty (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) forced a fumble that Rivituso picked up and dashed 28 yards for a score.

Lycoming added its final score with 3:02 left, as junior Gary DeGroat (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) blocked a punt and returned it 29 yards to make it 45-0.
