Warriors sweep Friday night at the Tip-Off

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Ellie Norton (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) notched a couple marks in the Lycoming College volleyball team's record book in the first match, a 3-0 (25-12, 25-4, 25-11) win over Clarks Summit before first-year middle hitter Cameron Upcraft (Springs Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) and senior middle hitter Elizabeth Kelson (Denville, N.J./Morris Catholic) each had double-digit digs to lead Lycoming to a 3-1 (25-16, 25-12, 22-25, 25-18) win in the nightcap at Lamade Gym on Friday night, Sept. 2.
 
Norton served up 15 straight points in the second set against the Defenders (0-1 overall), tying the school record set by sophomore Arianna Santos (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) (2021) and Katelyn McKillop (2013). Norton finished the game with 16 assists and nine service aces, tied for second-most in program history, as Lycoming served up 17 aces in the match. She also added 16 assists.
 
The Warriors (3-0 overall) hit .386 (30-8-57) in the match and limited the Defenders to -.039.
 
Kelson finished with nine kills on 11 swings for a fiery .818 hitting percentage, Upcraft hit 1.000 in five swings and sophomore Jessica Ahart (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) had four kills in five swings.
 
Sophomore Ali Koval (Mansfield, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) and sophomore Brynne Bisel (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) each had six digs to pace the defense.
 
Upcraft led the Warriors through the second match against the Hawks (0-2 overall), posting 13 kills, hitting .417,to go with two aces and three blocks and Kelson added 10 kills, hitting .409, with two blocks.
 
The Warriors won the first two sets going away before Hilbert held Lycoming to a negative hitting percentage in the third set to take a 25-22 win. Lycoming rebounded in the fourth set, fighting through 10 lead changes and five ties before a big kill from Kelson made it 22-18, setting up a run of four straight points to end the match, the last two kills coming from sophomore Ava Coombs (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern).
 
Santos posted six kills and three blocks and Bisel posted seven kills and 10 digs. Koval finished with 21 digs to lead the team and Norton posted 24 assists and seven digs. Sophomore Marykatelin Button (Avon, N.Y./Avon) added 16 assists and three aces.
 
The Warriors wrap up the Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 3, when they face Hilbert at 2 p.m.
