ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore
Heath Jones (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) caught a pair of touchdowns, the last with 10:27 left in the fourth quarter and the Lycoming College football team's defense stalled a Lebanon Valley College drive at the 35-yard line to lift Lycoming to the 21-20 non-conference win at Arnold Field on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 10.
An interception by junior
Hunter Campbell (Enola, Pa./Pennsboro) got the Warriors (1-1 overall) into business at the 43-yard line with 1:40 left in the third quarter. The Warriors converted three times on third down in the resulting 12-play drive, with Shemory finding Jones for his second touchdown of the day from two yards out on the last third down to tie the game at 20 before junior
Ian Plankenhorn (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) gave the Warriors the lead with the extra point.
Lebanon Valley (0-4 overall) couldn't get across midfield on its next two drives before getting the ball back at their own 27 with 3:11 left. A pass interference call got the ball to the Lycoming 38, but after a short completion, a pair of penalties left the Dutchmen at the 50 yardline and facing 3-and-22. A five-yard pickup before an incompletion ensured the Warrior win.
Jones rushed 16 times for 84 yards and he caught three passes for 13 yards and two scores. Senior quarterback
Elijah Shemory (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) went 15-of-29 for 174 yards and three scores in the air and he rushed 19 times for 42 yards. Senior
Aaron Wolcott (Woodbine, Md./Century) had three catches for 26 yards and sophomore
Brandon Timothy (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic Valley) had two catches for 56 yards and a score.
The Warriors got on the board with a 10-play, 65-yard drive early in the first quarter, with Shemory finding Jones to his left for a six-yard score. The drive was highlighted by a 29-yard completion to junior
Ziare Williams (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) that got the ball into the red zone.
The Dutchmen scored the next two touchdowns, taking a 14-7 lead after a five-yard score by Rylee Stahlwith 1:11 left in the second quarter. After Witherite's interception got the Warriors in business in the second half, Shemory found Timothy for a 60-yard score two plays later, tying the game with 13:57 left in the third quarter. The Dutchmen responded with a six-play, 80-yard drive, as Malaki Blair scored on a 23-yard reception with 10:46 left, but the resulting extra point was missed, leading to the Warriors' comeback drive that started late in the quarter.
Senior
Austin Rowley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) posted 11 tackles to lead the defense, adding one tackle for loss. Campbell added five tackles and an interception and senior
Stephon Payne (Bronx, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) and junior
Coleman Witherite (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) each also had interceptions. Senior
David Tomb (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) had 1.5 tackles for loss.
Braden Bohannon finished 15-of-31 for 202 yards and two touchdowns, while also being intercepted three times. Dion Bryant rushed seven times for 28 yards and a score. Stahl caught five passed for 33 yards and a score and Malaki Blair rushed four times for 45 yards and a score.
Ryan Enright led the Dutchmen with 10 tackles, 2.5 for loss, a sack and a forced fumble.
The Warriors now enter their bye week before heading to Albright to open Middle Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 12 p.m.
