Woodring shootout goal lifts Warriors to first victory

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Sophomore Halie Woodring (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) put two in the net, including the winning shootout goal to lift the Lycoming College women's field hockey team to their first win in 30 years, a 4-3 shootout victory over Keuka College, on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

In a game that went to double-overtime and then a best-of-five shootout, the Warriors (1-3 overall) put three on the board, their most of the season, in regulation. Woodring was the first to find the goal, tying the Wolves (0-4 overall), 1-1, at 10:28 in the first quarter.

Sophomore Adrianna Simpson (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) gave the Warriors a lead in the second quarter with a goal at 26:54 off the assist from sophomore Kaylie Stocker (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) and both teams were held scoreless through the third.

In the fourth, the Wolves fought back with a pair of goals before first-year Julianna McGovern (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) tied the game at three with a minute remaining in regulation, with another assist by Stocker, to send the game to overtime.

First-year goalkeeper Isabella Bobé (York Springs, Pa./Bermudian Springs) held off the Wolves through two overtime periods, making one save on three shots and three penalty corners.

Woodring scored as the first of five shooters for the Warriors in the shootout, but Bobé turned away all five Keuka attempts to secure the Lycoming's first field hockey win since a 2-1 win over Juniata on Sept. 15, 1992.

Tori Nelson scored two for the Wolves and Alex Roland had the other goal.

Bobé made six saves over all 80 minutes of play and Wolves' goalkeeper Jordan Nichols made nine.

The Warriors return to play on Wednesday, Sept. 14, when they travel to Juniata College for a 7 p.m. start in Huntingdon, Pa.
