WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College athletic department continued its strong history of community service with more than 300 student-athletes dedicating more than 1,500 hours to volunteer work in the Williamsport area during the 2021-22 academic year.
"Obviously, the last two years, we were limited in the kinds of community service that we could perform because of the pandemic," Director of Athletics Mike Clark '93 said. "In the spring semester especially, it was nice that we were able to continue several athletic department traditions, like our commitment to Favors Forward's Spring Cleanup and we also had a variety of teams work with local organizations like the SPCA, Get In the Game Bone Marrow Registry and Williamsport's First Fridays."
As always, the Warriors were active in the community. The men's basketball team participated in several events in September, October, and April, working with First Fridays. The women's basketball team worked events for the First United Church Soup Kitchen.
The cross country team participated in four events throughout the year, dedicating over 200 hours. Team members worked with Highlands Nursing Home, Brandon Park Litter Cleanup, Favors Forward Spring Cleanup and Paws Run SPCA.
The football team hosted Be the Match Registry as part of the Get in the Game campaign, working a bone marrow testing drive in April. The Warriors have added more than 600 donors to the Be The Match Registry in the history of the event.
The men's soccer team participated hosted a Youth Clinic in March. The women's soccer team also helped with the Williamsport City Lions Soccer Club from November to April.
The volleyball team held a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness in October, raising $250.
About 160 Warrior athletes spent the morning of April 23 working with Favors Forward's Spring Cleanup. With a large contingent of football, men's soccer, volleyball, cross country and women's soccer athletes, the teams spent the day working with the Williamsport organization during its Day of Caring, doing various works around the Lycoming County area, which mostly included volunteering for senior citizens and those physically unable to do yard work.
The SAAC and athletic department participated in events, including a Sexual Assault Prevention Week Fireside Chat and a Red Cross Blood Drive.
