Massaro leads Warriors at Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – With a pair of goals and an assist, senior Dominick Massaro (Centereach, N.Y./Sachem North) led the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team against Stevens Institute of Technology in their final regular season game, a 23-5 MAC Freedom win for the Ducks on Saturday, April 30, at DeBaun Athletic Complex.
 
Juniors Rory Hines (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), Zach Anderson (Fogelsville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh), and first-year Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) each scored one goal for the Warriors (8-9 overall, 4-4 MAC Freedom). Hines picked up an assist and two groundballs, Anderson had two groundballs and a caused turnover, and Hoover added a groundball.
 
Junior Brody Balasa (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) led the team with five groundballs and three caused turnovers.
 
Stevens (10-7 overall, 8-0 MAC Freedom) ran five goals onto the board in the first quarter before Massaro notched the Warriors' first goal of the game with 4:26 left in the first quarter.
 
Anderson's goal came at the 9:14 mark in the second quarter after the Ducks had put up another four goals, as senior Markus Sidwell (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) picked up a groundball that led to the assist by Massaro.
 
Hines scored off a rebound shot from Anderson with 8:07 left in the third and Massaro scored his second three minutes later. Hoover's goal came two and a half minutes after Massaro.
 
Ryan Caplis led the Ducks with three goals and four groundballs and Andrew Muller added eight groundballs.
 
First-year goalkeeper Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), junior goalkeeper Sean Sonnie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson), and first-year goalkeeper Michael Lavinio (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional) combined for 13 saves. Four goalkeepers for the Ducks combined for 12 saves as Jake Zehyer earned the win.
 
The Warriors enter the MAC Freedom Championship as the No. 5 seed and return to the field on Tuesday, May 2, when they travel to No. 4 Misericordia University for a 7 p.m start at Mangelsdorf Field.
