Warriors fall to Cougars

DALLAS, Pa. – Senior Erika Boyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) led the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team with a goal and an assist, but it fell to Misericordia University, 18-5, in its MAC Freedom opener at Mangelsdorf Field on Wednesday afternoon, March 30.
 
Boyer added two groundballs and a caused turnover while four others scored in the game for Lycoming (4-5 overall, 0-1 MAC Freedom), who saw an end to a three-game winning streak with the loss to the Cougars (5-4 overall, 1-0 MAC Freedom).
 
Junior Tess Arnold (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) scored to tie the game at one five minutes in and Boyer's goal came 58 seconds into the second before senior Emma Lehr (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) scored to make it 4-3 three minutes in.
 
The Cougars scored the next five goals before first-year Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) found the back of the net right before halftime to make it 10-4. First-year Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) kept it a seven-goal game with a free-position goal with 6:14 left in the third before Misericordia scored the last six goals of the game.
 
Arnold led the Warriors with four groundballs and Maguire notched four draw controls.
 
Molly Celesky led the Cougars with five goals and Savanna Winpigler posted two goals and two assists. Makenzie Tumini picked up four groundballs, caused three turnovers and grabbed nine draw controls.
 
Sophomore Zoe Stauffer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) notched six saves in goal for Lycoming and Maggie McGovern stopped 14 for the Cougars.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, April 2, when they host Arcadia University in a 1 p.m. MAC Freedom game. The team will honor its four seniors before first draw.
