MANHATTANVILLE, N.Y. – First-year
Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) scored a Lycoming College women's lacrosse rookie record eight goals, tied for the fifth-most in program history, to help lead it to a 19-14 non-conference win over Manhattanville on Friday evening, March 25, at GoValiants.com Field.
Â
Maguire paced the Warriors (3-4 overall) all game as the team racked up its most goals since a 21-12 win over Arcadia on April 13, 2019. She posted three goals in the first quarter, two in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth. Maguire also led the team with six draws.
Â
First-year
Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) added a career-best five goals and an assist and senior
Erika Boyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) added four goals and three assists, a career-best in goals and one shy of her career high in points.
Â
Junior
Tess Arnold (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) paced the defense, notching two assists, three ground balls and causing five turnovers. Both senior
Kailey Coelho (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and sophomore
Ali Klube (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) each caused two turnovers.
Â
The Valiants (1-4 overall) closed within three goals twice in the fourth quarter, but a goal off a hustle play with 5:13 left helped seal the win for the Warriors, as senior
Emma Lehr (Danville, Pa./Danville) challenged the Manhattanville goalie's clearing pass, deflecting it to the top of the arc, where Stocker picked it up and fired it in after dodging around a defender to make it 17-13. Seconds later, Maguire scored her eighth goal.
Â
The Valiants, down two at halftime, cut the lead to a goal twice in the third quarter, but each time, the Warriors responded, finishing the quarter with four of the last five goals to head into the fourth ahead 14-10 after Stocker posted a free-position goal with one second left in the period.
Â
After Manhattanville got on the board with the first two goals, the Warriors fought back to tie it twice before finally taking their first lead of the game when Stocker scored on a dish from Arnold halfway through the first quarter, the middle of a run of three straight goals. Manhattanville came back to tie it at five, but Maguire capped a 4-2 run with a goal with 40 seconds left in the second quarter that helped the Warriors take a 9-7 lead into halftime.
Â
Lara Keenan led the Valiants with six goals, six draws and an assist. Felicity Williams, Maura Kelly and Mackenzie Orf each caused five turnovers.
Â
Sophomore goalkeeper
Zoe Stauffer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) stopped 10 shots to earn the win, also leading the team with five groundballs. Britney Sirota had six saves for the Valiants.
Â
The Warriors get back on the field on Sunday, March 27, when they host Saint Vincent at 1 p.m. at UPMC Field in a non-conference matchup.
