Eiswerth, Segraves lead Warriors to win over defending E8 champs

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – First-year Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) tossed a complete game seven-hitter and sophomore Kylie Segraves (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) hit a three-run homer during a five-RBI game to lead the Lycoming College softball team to a 6-3 win over the defending Empire 8 champions, Alfred University, in the first game of a doubleheader at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Tuesday, March 22. The Warriors fell to the Saxons, 13-3, in the second game.

First-year Rachel Daub (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale Area) went 5-for-5 with two doubles, four runs and an RBI during the doubleheader to lead the Warriors (4-6 overall). She was also hit by a pitch and has reached base in six straight plate appearances.

Eiswerth (2-1) allowed seven hits, three runs and a walk. She struck out three. She retired 12 of 13 batters faced between the second and fifth innings to pace the team in the win.

After Alfred scored in the top of the first, Daub and junior Morgan Wetzel (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) hit back-to-back one-out singles, setting up Segraves, who drilled a three-run homer over the left-center field fence.

Lycoming added another run in the second when Eiswerth walked, took second on an attempted double steal, third on a single from senior Kacee Reitz (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) and scored on a single up the middle from Daub. The Warriors extended the lead to five runs in the fifth inning, as Daub hit a one-out double before Wetzel singled. She stole second to put runners on second and third, where she scored on a single to center from Segraves.

Moravian cut the lead to three runs in the sixth, but Eiswerth quelled the rally with a flyout and left two stranded in the last two frames.

Segraves finished 2-for-5 with a run and five RBI, Daub went 3-for-3 with two runs and a RBI and Wetzel went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Tatiana Mejia led the Saxons, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Megan Bennett (1-3) took the loss, allowing nine hits and six runs in six innings. She walked two and struck out five.

Daub went 2-for-2 with two runs in the second game to lead the Warriors, but Alfred used 11 hits to post a 13-3 five-inning win.

After Alfred scored one in the first, Daub singled to left with one out before Wetzel was hit by a pitch. An error on a double steal helped Daub score to tie it.

Alfred broke the tie with a four-run third before adding eight in the fifth. The Warriors did score a pair of runs in the fifth, using two hit batters, a walk, an error and a RBI single from sophomore Rachel DeWolfe (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff).
Ashley Lugo went 3-for-4 with two runs and Mya Wells went 2-for-4 with two runs to lead the Saxons. Arden Hatch (1-2) allowed four hits and no earned runs in the complete game. She walked three and struck out five.

Junior Payton Whary (Shamokin, Pa./Shamokin Area) (2-2) allowed five hits and an earned run in three innings in the loss. She struck out two.

The Warriors get back on the field on Thursday, March 24, when they host Susquehanna in the Cancer Awareness Cup. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.
