Warriors use big third-quarter to down Buffalo State, 14-10

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A run of three straight goals from first-year Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) late in the third quarter helped the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team score seven of the last nine goals in a 14-10 win over Buffalo State on Saturday, March 18, at UPMC Field.

First-year Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) led the Warriors (2-4 overall) with four goals, junior Tess Arnold (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) added two goals and three assists and first-year Erin Henn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sayville) notched two goals and two assists. Senior Erika Boyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) added two goals, an assist and two caused turnovers and junior Gabriella Haug (Barrington, N.H./Oyster River) also added two caused turnovers.

Down 8-7 midway through the third quarter, Maguire tied the game with a hard-earned free-position goal. The Warriors took the lead when Arnold found Maguire, who fired over a Bengals' stick into the left corner with 5:19 remaining in the period. Maguire added another free-position goal three minutes later and Stocker put the Warriors up 11-8 with another strike with 42 seconds left in the period.

Buffalo State (2-2 overall) closed within two twice in the fourth quarter, but Arnold found Henn for a goal with 4:13 left and Henn found Stocker less than 30 seconds later to seal the win for the Warriors.

The Warriors scored the first goal of the game and took three leads, but Buffalo State tied it each time before a run of three straight goals gave it a 5-4 lead at halftime. The Warriors tied it at 5 with the first score of the third quarter and took a 7-6 lead off a score from Henn before a pair of Buffalo State goals over the next minute and a half set up Lycoming's final run.

Julia Wachna led the Bengals with four goals and four draws. Anastacia Wells notched five ground balls, eight draw controls and caused three turnovers.

Sophomore Zoe Stauffer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) notched nine saves to earn the win for the Warriors. Janae Nelson stopped eight shots for the Bengals.
