Russell, Wetzel lead Warriors on Day 2 in Myrtle Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore Kylie Russell (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) and junior Morgan Wetzel (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) led the Lycoming College softball team with four hits a piece on the team's second day at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex, which fell to Division II Franklin Pierce, 5-2, and Mount Aloysius, 8-7, in eight innings, on Tuesday afternoon, March 15.

Russell led the Warriors with three runs and three hits against Mount Aloysius (2-3 overall), but Whitney Cole hit a double down the line to lift Mount Aloysius to an 8-7 eight-inning win.

The Warriors tied the game in the top of the seventh, as senior Morgan Klosko (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) singled into right to lead off before first-year Jacqueline Snyder (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) came in as a pinch runner and took second on a wild pitch, third on a sacrifice and scored on a two-out wild pitch.

First-year pitcher Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) left the winning run stranded at second in the seventh. The Warriors jumped out with a pair of runs in the first inning, as Russell led off with a triple before sophomore Kylie Segraves (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) singled off a diving shortstop. Two batters later, Klosko drove Segraves in with a single to right-center. Lycoming added three more runs in the second, with Russell starting the rally with a single with one out . After a lineout, back-to-back-to-back singles from junior Kacee Reitz (Milton, Pa./Milton Area), Wetzel and Klosko brought in the three runs.

The Mounties made it 5-3 in the bottom of the second, but Russell started a rally in the fourth with an infield single. Segraves followed with a single and Russell scored on a groundout to make it 6-3. Mount Aloysius used two runs in the fourth and sixth to take a 7-6 lead and set up the late dramatics.

Segraves went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI and Klosko went 3-for-3 with two RBI, as Lycoming had 12 hits in the game.
