Maguire scores four in debut

ARLINGTON, Va. – First-year Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) debuted with four goals to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team in its 2022 season-opener at 2021 Atlantic East finalist Marymount University, falling 17-6, on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 19.
 
The Warriors (0-1 overall) delivered goals on six of their 17 shots in the game, with senior Emma Lehr (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) posting the team's other two goals. Maguire also led the team with four draw controls. First-year Erin Henn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sayville) led the team with two goals and senior Erika Boyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) also added a dime and she picked up two ground balls and caused two turnovers.
 
Junior Rorie Bass Foresman (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and junior Madison Wineburg (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) each also had two caused turnovers.
 
Marymount (2-0 overall) scored the first three goals before Maguire notched her first of the game. After Marymount answered, the Warriors scored three goals in the last two minutes of the first quarter, with Boyer finding Maguire to tie the game with two seconds left.
 
Maguire added another goal to cap a four-goal run and give Lycoming a 5-4 lead with 11:21 left in the second period, but the Saints took control with four goals before halftime and the first three of the second half.
 
Kaleigh Dunham and Emily Peters led the Saints with four goals a piece and Taylor Chepren added three. Peters also contributed eight draw controls and four caused turnovers. Mariel Russ had six saves in net.
 
In net, sophomore Zoe Stauffer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) posted 12 saves in the game's first 52 minutes before junior Gabriella Haug (Barrington, N.H./Oyster River) notched two in the last eight minutes.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, March 2, when they head to Muhlenberg for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
