Harward, Warriors hold off Delaware Valley, 73-68

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Senior Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) notched 16 points, including a huge 3-pointer with 2:18 left, 14 rebounds and five blocks to lead the Lycoming College men's basketball team, which held off a late rally from Delaware Valley University to post a 73-68 MAC Freedom win on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Work Gymnasium.

Five Warriors (6-4 overall, 2-1 MAC Freedom) finished in double figures, as the team shot 46 percent (30-of-66) from the field while holding the Aggies (5-5 overall, 2-2 MAC Freedom) to 34 percent (22-of-65).

Harward moved within 65 points of 1,000 in his career, 15 blocks of the school record of 158 held by fellow Danville native Michael Rudy '14 and within four rebounds of Ronald Kitt '58's mark of 681, seventh in the school's record book. Harward has more rebounds than any Lycoming player since Ron Travis '68, who accumulated 1,124 in his career.

Senior DeAundre Manuel (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP NYC Prep) added 16 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists, junior Brendon Blackson (Laurel, Md./Laurel) added 12 points and four assists, sophomore Ivan Komitski (Sofia, Bulgaria/Lee Academy (Maine)) added a career-high 12 and senior Mo Terry (Severn, Md./Severn School) posted 10 points and two assists.

The Warriors notched 34 points in the paint and 21 points off turnovers, but the Aggies held a 53-37 advantage on the glass, which helped it turn a 20-point halftime deficit into a two-point game with 3:23 left, as the Aggies outscored the Warriors, 28-14 in the first 16 minutes of the second half.

The Aggies even got a blocked shot on the ensuing possession, but Manuel got the rebound and he got an easy layup. Two possessions later, Manuel found Harward open and he swished a 3-pointer to make it 72-65 with 2:18 left. The Aggies hit just 1-of-5 in the final two minutes and couldn't get closer than four points, while Manuel iced the game with a free throw from Manuel with seven seconds left.

The Warriors jumped out on a 13-point run in the game's first five minutes and led by double figures for the last 15:30 of the first half. Terry led the opening run, as Lycoming hit 5-of-10 and Delaware Valley missed its first seven shots and were forced into three turnovers. Lycoming kept the pressure on, hitting 12-of-17 in the first half's final 14 minutes, getting the lead to 22 points before the Aggies closed the half with a pair of free throws to trail 44-24 at the break.

Rasheem Dearry led the Aggies with 24 points and Justin Savage added seven points and 10 rebounds. Godly Marc added four steals and Ewens Lizima notched five assists.

The Warriors get back on the court when they head to the hometown of senior Pablo Pereira (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Saint Francis School) for the Puerto Rico Classic, facing Scranton in the first of the two-game event at 12 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19.
