WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Led by junior
Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton), who notched her sixth straight double digit game of the season, the Lycoming College women's basketball team ran out to an early lead to get past Penn College in the Lycoming's home opener, 58-42, on Tuesday evening, Nov. 22, at Lamade Gym.

Lockard finished with 16 points, a career-high 15 rebounds and two assists, as she hit 8-of-9 from the field. First-year
Victoria Burton (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) served up her best game of the season, posting 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomores
Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) and
Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) each added eight points, as Dufner also posted five rebounds and three assists and Wetzel collected six rebounds and two assists. Senior
Kenzie Reed (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) posted seven points, a career-high six steals, three blocks and three assists.

The Warriors (3-3 overall) led for all but the first 47 seconds, shooting 37 percent (24-of-65) from the field while limiting the Wildcats (1-3 overall) to 29 percent (16-of-55).

The Warriors took an early lead through in the first quarter and Burton pushed the difference to 14 points with 1:20 left in the opening quarter. Wetzel opened the game with a three-point shot and followed it up just two possessions later with another three, as she led the Warriors with six points through the first.

Lockard positioned the Warriors with a further cushioned advantage in the second, notching eight points alone as the defense held the Wildcats to only 12 points. First-year
Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) rallied with two layups for four points. Burton closed the first half with a layup for a lead of 18 points at 40-22.

The Warrior defense limited the Wildcats to eight points in the third quarter while pushing their lead to 27 points at 54-27 after a layup from Wetzel with 42 seconds left. Burton led the Warriors with four points in the quarter. Lycoming hit just two field goals in the fourth quarter and Penn College was able to get the lead under 20 in the final moments.

The Wildcats were led by Lexi Troup with 10 points, Rachel Teats added nine points and five rebounds, and Allie Troup with two assists.

The Warriors return to the court on Sunday, Nov. 27, when they travel to Susquehanna University for a 2 p.m. tipoff in Selinsgrove, Pa.
