Warriors fall to Catholic, Lebanon Valley

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – First-year Cameron Upcraft (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) led the Lycoming College volleyball team with 15 kills as the team fell to Catholic University of America, 3-1, and Lebanon Valley College, 3-0, in non-conference action at Lamade Gym on Saturday, Oct. 8.
 
Senior Elizabeth Kelson (Denville, N.J./Morris Catholic) led the Warriors (11-9 overall) with nine kills and two blocks against the Cardinals (9-11 overall), and both Upcraft and sophomore Arianna Santos (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) notched eight. Upcraft also had six blocks and two aces to pace the Warriors, while Santos had three blocks.
 
Sophomore Brynne Bisel (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) posted seven kills and seven digs and sophomore Kendall Myers (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) had 24 digs, leaving her five shy of 600 in her career. Sophomore Marykatelin Button (Avon, N.Y./Avon) notched 29 assists.
 
The Warriors won the first set after hitting .267 and posting four blocks, separating after a tie at 23 with back-to-back kills from Upcraft and Kelson before Santos capped the set with a kill. Catholic  hit .409 in the second set and then jumped out to a large lead in the third to hold on for a 25-20 win before hitting .333 with 15 kills in the fourth set.
 
Olivia Blondin led the Cardinals with 15 kills, as she helped the team hit .243. Brittany Connatser had nine kills and four blocks and Erin Faughnan finished with six kills and seven blocks. Izzy Steinberg had three aces, Isabelle Gonzalez posted 38 assists and Tanya Sichling added 15 digs.
 
Taylor McInerney led a hot-hitting Lebanon Valley College with 21 kills in the first match of the day, helping it to a 3-0 win (25-15, 25-14, 25-13).
 
The Dutchmen hit .289 (40-12-97) and added 14 aces in the match to get past the Warriors.
 
Upcraft led the Warriors with seven kills. Button added 11 assists and Quelet notched two aces. Myers led the team with 11 digs and Santos and Kelson each had two blocks.
 
Kelli Heffer had seven kills, Ali Whitworth led the team with 34 assists, Robyn Stepler posted five aces and Abigail Souder notched 14 digs for the Dutchmen.
 
The Warriors get back on the court with a huge MAC Freedom match at FDU-Florham on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m.
