Warriors hold off Wilkes, 2-1

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Joey Francis (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) notched the game-winner in the 55th minute, cleaning up a scrum in the middle of the net, to push the Lycoming College men's soccer team to a 2-1 MAC Freedom win over Wilkes University on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at UPMC Field.

First-year Keller Chamovitz (Sewickly, Pa./Quaker Valley) put the Warriors (6-2-4 overall, 2-0 MAC Freedom) on the board first at 12:27 in the first half, heading the ball into the upper 90 off a free kick from junior Dylan Sloan (Essex, Md./Archbishop Curley).

A corner kick taken by junior Reuban Devaney (Nottingham, Md./Concordia Prep) set up Francis' game-winner, as junior Christian Barnes (Baltimore, Md./Friends School of Baltimore) made contact at the left goal post with a header pass to Francis on the other side, giving Lycoming the lead after Wilkes' Colin Schulmeister tied the game at one at three minutes prior.

Junior goalkeeper Nick Wilke (Mercerville, N.J./Notre Dame) finished the night with four saves. Zach Tone also had four for the Colonels (4-6-1 overall, 1-1 MAC Freedom).

The Warriors return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 8, when they face Arcadia University in MAC Freedom action at 2:30 p.m. in Glenside, Pa.
