MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore
Owen Magee (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) charged in from the left side to clean up a rebound off the goalkeeper to help lift the regionally-ranked Lycoming College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over MAC Freedom opponent FDU-Florham, in the regular-season finale on Friday night, Oct. 28, at Shields Field.
Â
The Warriors (10-4-5 overall, 6-2 MAC Freedom) reached 10 wins for the seventh time in head coach
Nate Gibboney's nine full seasons at the helm and will finish no worse than tied for second in the MAC Freedom with 18 points, the sixth time in nine seasons that the Warriors finished either first or second in the league's standings.
Â
The Warriors did it in impressive fashion with their first come-from-behind win of the year. Sophomore
Jaeden Asare (Letterkenny, Ireland/Perry Hall (Md.)) tied the game at one on a header from the top of the goal box from first-year
Keller Chamovitz (Sewickly, Pa./Quaker Valley), who sent in the dime off a free kick in the 26
th minute.
Magee's game-winning goal came in the 84
th minute on the rebound of a goalkeeper save off a quick counter-attack shot from junior
Joe Bamfo (Lake Grove, N.Y./Connetquot). The rebound fell right into the path of Magee, who found the back of the net unguarded.
Â
Mattia Assante Di Cupillo led the Devils with the opening goal of the game.
Â
Junior goalkeeper
Nick Wilke (Mercerville, N.J./Notre Dame) finished the game with two saves. Tiernan Grey finished with four saves for the Devils.
Â
The Warriors will return to the field in the postseason play on Thursday, Nov. 3 in the MAC Freedom Championship semifinals as either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed, depending on the outcome of Saturday, Oct. 29's game between Misericordia and Delaware Valley. If Misericordia wins, they will earn the No. 2 seed due to a head-to-head tiebreaker with the Warriors. An Aggie win or tie will allow the Warriors to host either the Cougars or Wilkes, if Wilkes beats Arcadia. Â
