Warriors wrap up first year back

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – First-year Autumn Shahan (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Charter) scored in the first quarter to lead the Lycoming College field hockey team, but Wilkes University answered in the second and got the golden goal in overtime to post a 2-1 MAC Freedom win on Wednesday night, Oct. 26, at UPMC Field.

The Warriors (2-13 overall, 0-8 MAC Freedom) got on the board first, scoring in the ninth minute when first-year Juliana McGovern (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) crossed a pass along the goalline that got past the keeper and Shahan was there to find the back of the net.

The Warriors, who took 10 shots in the game, came close to getting on the board several more times. After Wilkes (4-11 overall, 1-7 MAC Freedom) tied the game in the second quarter, McGovern had a two shot sequence where she forced a save and then hit the crossbar right before halftime. The Warriors also appeared to put the game-winner in the back of the goal twice in the second half, but fouls waved off the goals.

The Colonels, however, were able to take both shots in overtime, scoring on a high shot Lauren Shiplett in the 64th minute.

First-year Isabella Bobé (York Springs, Pa./Bermudian Springs) stopped eight shots in goal for the Warriors and Carly Eidle stopped six for the Colonels.
