Warrior seniors pace team in 42-10 win over Alvernia

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Austin Rowley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) had two interceptions to lead the defense and senior Aaron Wolcott (Woodbine, Md./Century) caught two touchdowns to pace the Lycoming College football team, which rolled up 323 yards of offense in a span of 66 plays to down Alvernia University, 42-10, in Middle Atlantic Conference action at David Person Field on Saturday, Oct. 22.
 
Senior Elijah Shemory (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area), healthy after entering the Stevenson game in the third quarter to try to lead a comeback, finished 17-of-25 for 157 yards and three touchdowns and he ran 16 times for 33 yards in an efficient outing.
 
Wolcott caught three passes for 35 yards and he tied his career-best with two scores and Rowley picked up 48 all-purpose yards, getting 40 on his two interception returns and he added four tackles, as he helped the Warrior defense turnover the Golden Wolves (2-5 overall, 1-3 MAC) four times. Senior Stephon Payne (Bronx, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) added an interception and five tackles and senior Coleman Witherite (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) added four stops, an interception and pass breakup. Senior David Tomb (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) led the team with 10 tackles, 2.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks.
 
The Warriors (3-4 overall, 2-3 MAC) scored on their first three drives, with Jones capping an 11-play, 62-yard drive with 6:39 left in the opening quarter with a five-yard run, junior Aaron Wolcott (Woodbine, Md./Century) caught a pass over the middle for a 20-yard score to cap a 40-yard drive and first-year Michael VanHorn (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) rushed in from three yards out to cap a 12-play, 56-yard drive with 11:51 left in the second quarter.
 
Alvernia broke that string of points with a 39-yard field goal midway through the second quarter, heading into the break down 21-3. The Warriors, using a 40-yard interception return from Rowley at the 9:21 mark of the third quarter got the ball at the Alvernia 31. Ten plays later, Shemory found a slashing Wolcott, who picked the ball clean out of the air on the left side of the end zone to make it 28-3.
 
Alvernia used an 11-play, 71-yard drive to score their only touchdown of the game early in the third quarter, but Lycoming added scores on their last two drives, with Shemory finding sophomore Will Fish (Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg) from six yards out for his first career touchdown reception with 4:08 left and first-year Rocco Pulizzi (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) found the second level for a 33-yard score with 2:56 left to round out the scoring.
 
Sophomore Heath Jones (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) rushed 13 times for 50 yards and a score and junior Brandon Timothy (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic Valley) led the receivers with five catches for 59 yards.
 
Junior Hunter Campbell (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) posted six tackles, 2.5 for loss, and sophomore Jake Welch (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) added six stops, 0.5 for loss, as the Warriors allowed just 190 yards of total offense to the Golden Wolves.
 
Monte McMorris finished 17-of-32 for 136 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted four times. He also rushed 11 times for 22 yards to lead Alvernia, which ran 34 times for 54 yards in the game.
 
Jamel Fleming led Alvernia with nine tackles and Jyleen Neals added two tackles for loss, a sack and a fumble recovery.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 29, when they head to Wilkes University for a 12 p.m. start.
