GLENSIDE, Pa. – Sophomore
Steven Hamilton (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) posted a career-high 27 points, his second straight 20-point effort, and junior
Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) added another double-double to lead the Lycoming College men's basketball team, which used a strong-shooting first half to post a 78-66 MAC Freedom win over Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 8, at Alumni Gymnasium.
Â
Hamilton hit eight field goals, one 3-pointer and went 10-of-11 at the line en route to the career high in points, the most for a Warrior since
Darius Dangerfield had 31 against Hood on Feb. 1, 2020. He also added five rebounds and three assists.
Â
Harward finished with a season-best 22 points, as he also hit eight field goals and added two 3-pointers to go with a 4-for-5 effort at the line. He also posted 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season, tied for sixth-most in program history, and blocked a season-best five shots.
Â
The pair helped lead the Warriors (9-5 overall, 4-1 MAC Freedom) into second-place alone in the MAC Freedom, a game-behind league-leading DeSales (13-1 overall, 5-0 MAC Freedom). Lycoming shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the field in the game, almost identical to Arcadia (4-11 overall, 3-3 MAC Freedom) (25-of-63), but it hit three more 3-pointers and nine more free throws, as the Warriors shot 85 percent (22-of-26) at the charity stripe.
Â
Arcadia took an 8-2 lead to start the game, but the Warriors responded with a 21-8 run, taking a 23-16 lead with 9:09 left after Hamilton led the run with seven points. A bucket by the Knights was followed by a 13-2 run from the Warriors, with junior
Mo Terry (Severn, Md./Severn School) posting a 3-pointer to cap the run and give Lycoming a 36-20 lead with 3:28 left and the team was able to keep a 16-point lead at the break, 43-27.
Â
The Warriors led 50-31 three minutes into the second half before the Knights embarked on a 26-11 run over the next 11 minutes to close within four with 6:52 left. Harward responded with a tough second-chance bucket before senior
Matt Ilodigwe (Wilmington, Del./Concord) hit a pair of free throws and Harward followed up a block and defensive rebound by hitting a 3-pointer. The Warriors hit three more free throws to get the lead back to 16 before Majekodunmi hit a layup to break the run with 2:38 left, but the Knights couldn't get closer than nine in the final 150 seconds.
Â
Terry posted 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists, Ilodigwe added seven points, five rebounds and three assists and sophomore
Mavin James (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) also added six points.
Â
Samuel Majekodunmi led the Knights with 14 points and five rebounds and Johaan Vinson added 13 points and five rebounds.
Â
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Jan. 12, when Wilkes University comes to Lamade Gym for an 8 p.m. MAC Freedom tip.
