Warriors fall to River Hawks, 44-10

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior Tyjah During (Surrattsville, Md./Accokeek) led the Lycoming College football team with six catches for 83 yards, but the team fell to Susquehanna University, 44-10, in the Stagg Hat Trophy game to open the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4, at Doug Arthur Stadium.
 
Senior Elijah Shemory (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) finished 14-of-26 for 155 yards and one score for the Warriors, with During his favorite target. Senior Tre' Leach (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) scored on a 17-yard route in the fourth quarter and finished with four catches for 27 yards.
 
The defense was led by seven tackles and a breakup from junior Austin Rowley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and seven stops from sophomore Hunter Campbell (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro). Senior Sam Pittsman (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) posted two tackles for loss.
 
Freshman Ian Plankenhorn (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) capped a 12-play, 50-yard drive in the second quarter by hitting a 30-yard field goal to make it 6-3 after Susquehanna scored with 4:47 left in the first.
 
The River Hawks posted two second-quarter touchdowns to take a 20-6 lead into halftime, then added the first 17 points of the second half before Shemory found Leach to cap a nine-play, 79-yard drive midway through the fourth.
 
Michael Ruisch completed 19-of-26 for 215 yards and two touchdowns and Samuel Darrell caught five passes for 76 yards and a score. Frank Negrini rushed five times for 31 yards and two scores. Austin Schicchitano led the River Hawks with seven tackles.
 
Susquehanna rushed 39 times for 174 yards and four touchdowns and threw for 237 yards on 30 attempts, scoring twice, while Lycoming threw for 155 yards and ran for 40. Neither team had a turnover in the game.
 
The Warriors get back on the field when they open their home slate on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m., against Lebanon Valley at David Person Field.
