WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The first 10 and the last 21 points were more than enough as the Lycoming College football team ground for 211 yards and allowed just 217 total in a 31-6 win over Lebanon Valley College on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 11, at David Person Field.
The Warriors (1-1 overall) used 10 rushers to roll up the 211 yards on the ground, as Warrior running backs accounted for 39 carries, 191 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Junior
Joey Guida (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) led the way, rushing 15 times for 91 yards and two touchdowns and junior
Kyle Powell (Philadelphia, Pa./Lincoln) ran 11 times for 70 yards and caught a 19-yard screen for a score.
Â
Senior quarterback
Elijah Shemory (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) finished 10-of-16 passing for 162 yards and a touchdown. He tossed two completions to senior
Kevin Krawczyk (Dupont, Pa./Pittston Area) for 36 yards and a touchdown and had a 50-yard completion to senior
Tyjah During (Accokeek, Md./Surrattsville).
Â
After Lebanon Valley (1-1 overall) held the ball for nearly 19 minutes in the first half, they had the ball for just 10 minutes in the second half, seeing their 160 yards of total offense in the first 30 minutes dwindle to 47 in the second.
Â
Lycoming, meanwhile, scored on its first three touches of the second half. After a three-and-out by Lebanon Valley opened the third quarter, the Warriors handed the ball to
Joey Guida four times on the ensuing drive for 24 yards before Powell cut loose for a 19-yard touchdown catch off a screen pass.
Â
A sack by sophomore
Hunter Campbell (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) ended Lebanon Valley's next drive, and Powell went to work for three rushes for 19 yards before an unsportsmanlike conduct and false start backed the Warriors into a 3-and-23. Shemory found During for the 50-yard reception, though, getting the ball to the LVC 27 and Powell and Guida pounded it down the field from there, with Guida scoring from nine out with 2:18 left.
Â
Another 3-and-out by LVC gave Lycoming the ball at the 47 just 20 seconds later. The Warriors went back to work, running seven times for 53 yards and an 18-yard touchdown from Guida made it 31-6 with 13:01 left. The Warriors held the Dutchmen to 13 more yards of offense and took eight of the games final 13 minutes off the clock with that grinding run game.
Â
The Warriors opened the scoring with a four-play, 54-yard scoring drive after During returned the opening kick to the 46-yard line. Shemory completed the drive by finding Krawczyk wide open on a cross for a 25-yard score. On their next drive, the Warriors drove 41 yards to get to the 19-yards line, where sophomore
Ian Plankenhorn (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) connected on a 36-yard field goal.
Â
The Dutchmen responded in the rest of the first half with a pair of field goals as quarterback Braden Bohannon rushed for 74 yards in the half to lead the offense, but he ran for just 12 more in the second half.
Â
Bohannon also finished 16-of-30 for 108 yards and he was intercepted once. Andrew Olson caught eight passes for 57 yards.
Â
Junior
David Tomb (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) led the Warriors with 10 tackles, a sack and two tackles for loss and junior
Cole Senior (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area) had seven tackles, two for a loss. Campbell posted six tackles, a sack and two breakups and senior
Gianni Bryant-Lopez (Delran, N.J./Delran) had four tackles, an interception and a breakup.
Â
Ryan Gibney finished with 10 tackles, one for a loss, to lead the Dutchmen and Dillon Estes had nine tackles.
Â
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 18, when they head to King's for a 1 p.m. Middle Atlantic Conference game.
