WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With the score 3-2 in the second set tiebreaker, freshman
Rei Saar (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) gutted out a nearly three-minute long rally, helping her take control before back-to-back winners in the superset tiebreaker sent her to her fourth straight singles win to highlight the afternoon for the Lycoming College women's tennis team, which fell to Grove City, 8-1, at Brandon Park on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
Â
After Lillian Jeynes won the first set at No. 5 singles, Saar fought back from a 5-4 deficit in the second set to force the tiebreaker, where her three-minute rally led to a winner on the next point, helping her to take a 5-2 lead en route to the 7-3 win. In the superset tiebreaker, Saar broke open a close set with back-to-back forehand winners to take a 9-6 lead before winning the match two points later. She improved to 7-1 on the season.
Â
Senior
Madison Heller (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) also went to a tiebreaker in her first set, but Logan Fuss was able to post a 7-4 (4), 6-3 win.
Â
The Warriors fell to 1-2 overall and Grove City improved to 5-2.
Â
The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday, Oct. 5, when they head to Juniata College for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
